Set up in the former "Walert" Mine in Rumelange, the MNM gives an overview of the history of iron ore mining in the south of Luxembourg, from the 19th century up to 1997.
The visitors are offered a tour of the mine which consists of three parts:
the surface exhibitions about the miners' life are accessible free of charge.
A mine train takes the visitors on a 4km tour across former open-pit mines and into the tunnels of "Walert".
On a foot trip through the tunnels, a guide gives the visitors information about the different mining techniques and the vast collection of mining machinery. Specialized tours are offered for schools or groups.
The meeting room J.-P. Bausch can welcome up to 50 people and is equipped with a video projector and projection screen. The underground mine galleries can welcome up to 110 people for special events. A tasting of the famous „Gamelle du Mineur” can be organised in the galleries on request.
